PRH Creative Writing Awards is now open for applications from suitably qualified students. It is a fully funded scholarship for all students sponsored by the Penguin Random House.
About the Scholarship
is committed to supporting diverse perspectives and stories and the next generation of authors and readers.
The Creative Writing Awards, a program that Penguin Random House has funded for over 25 years, embarked into a ground-breaking new cooperation with the national advocacy organization We Need Diverse Books in 2019.
Through this program, Penguin Random House will provide five public high school students nationwide with college scholarships worth up to $10,000 each.
Benefits of PRH Creative Writing Awards
Awards will be distributed as follows:
1. $10,000 Maya Angelou Award for Spoken Word.
2. $10,000 Amanda Gorman Award for Poetry.
3. $10,000 Fiction/Drama.
4. $10,000 Michelle Obama Award for Memoir.

Requirements for PRH Creative Writing Awards
Applicants to the Penguin Random House Creative Writing Awards Program in partnership with We Need Diverse Books must:
1. Be current high school seniors at a public high school in the United States graduating Spring of 2022;
2. Be 21 years of age and under;
3. Plan to enroll in an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or approved vocational-technical school Fall 2022;
4. Submit one original literary composition in English in one of the following genres of poetry, spoken word, fiction/drama or personal essay/memoir.
