Western Sydney University PhD Scholarship is now open for applications from suitably qualified students. It is a fully funded scholarship for all students sponsored by the Utrecht University.

About the University

(UWS) began operation on 1st January 1989, under the terms of the University of Western Sydney Act, 1988 which had been passed by the New South Wales Parliament in December 1988.

However, the predecessors of the University date back as far as 1891 with the establishment of the Hawkesbury Agricultural College.

The Act created a federated network university, based on two existing Colleges of Advanced Education – Hawkesbury Agricultural College and Nepean College of Advanced Education.

Partial Funding, $30,000(AUD) per annum stipend.

Requirements for Western Sydney University PhD Scholarship

1. Hold qualifications and experience equal to one of the following (i) an Australian First Class Bachelor (Honours) degree, (ii) coursework Masters with at least 25% research component, (iii) a Research Masters degree, or (iv) equivalent international qualifications in electrical engineering, or computer science.

2. Have demonstrated research experience in neuromorphic engineering.

3. Have a background in signal processing with strong programming skills in Python, Matlab, and/or C++, and an interest in signal processing in biology.

4. Be enthusiastic and highly motivated to undertake further study at an advanced level.

5. Not hold a degree of the same, or higher level, as the proposed candidature.

6. Reside in Australia for the duration of their studies, except for periods of approved overseas study leave.

7. Not receive income from another source to support general living costs while undertaking the program, if that income is greater than 75% of the stipend rate.*

Desirable skills include:

1. Demonstrated expertise using Verilog or VHDL for FPGA programming.

2. Experience in experimental design.

3. Experience with mixed-signal integrated circuit design.

4. Proven ability to work successfully as part of a team.

5. Familiarity with machine learning and machine learning concepts.
